BIOGRAPHY

Raymond was born and raised in Big Spring, Texas. He was the son of Mrs. Daisy Loren White and Raymond Austin White Jr. His mother had been married before. Raymond had seven brothers and sisters. He attended Big Spring High School and dropped out to join the Army in August of 1968. His parents were divorced and his mother had remarried and was living in Ramona, Oklahoma.  While attending Big Spring High School, he was active in football and track.  In the Army, he did his basic training at Fort Bliss and his AIT at Fort Polk, Louisiana. He departed for Vietnam on March 15, 1969.

In Vietnam he was assiged to C Company, 1st Battalion, 5th Mechanized Infantry Regiment, 25th Infantry Division. He was involved in many operations and was a qualified sniper.  On January 7, 1970, he was killed as he set out claymores in front of a night lager position.  The claymore was accidentally set off, no one knows who or why it went off.   The death was classified as non-hostile.

He was buried with full military honors at the Mount Olive Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas. He was survived by his father, Raymond A. White Jr. of Big Spring (now deceased), his mother, Mrs. Daisy Starks of Ramona, Oklahoma (now deceased), brothers; Marshall Leon White (now deceased), Walter H. White of Grants, New Mexico; Loyd F. White of Fort Worth, Texas, sisters; Margaret Laverne White (now deceased), Ramma Lee White (now deceased), Willie Mae White Stillwell of Ramona, Oklahoma and Judy Elaine White Peters of Ponca City Oklahoma.
