BIOGRAPHY

Eddie Dean Hollandsworth and his twin brother, Jimmy Don were born in Los Angeles, California to Gladys Carlita Bradshaw and Francis Edg Hollandworth.  The family were native  Howard County residents.  His older sister was born in Big Spring.  the family moved to California for approximately four years. The family returned to the Big Spring area in 1950 and Eddie attended the Airport Elementary School in Big Spring for a short time and then family settled in the Flower Grove area, where Eddie completed his education and graduated from the Flower Grove School in 1965.   He was drafted into the U.S. Army in February, 1966, at age 19.   He completed basic training at Fort Bliss, Texas and infantry AIT training at Fort Benning, Georgia.

He began his tour in Vietnam on July 7, 1966. He was assigned to Company D, 1st Battalion, 12th Cavalry Regiment, First Cavalry Division. He was killed by small arms fire December 17, 1966 during a vicious battle near Bong Son in the Binh Dinh Province. Twenty-nine soldiers, seventeen of Company D which included Eddie died that day.

He was buried with full military honors in the Trinity Memorial Cemetery in Big Spring, Texas. He was survived by his parents of Big Spring,  his twin brother, Jimmy Don, who was in the U.S. Navy at San Diego, Tommy, Kenneth and Alan all of the home; three sisters, Mrs. Virginia Merritt of Ann Arbor, Michigan,  Mrs. Shirley Webb, Carriere, Mississippi, Betty Sue Hollandsworth of the home and his maternal grandmother, Mrs. C.W. Bradshaw of Honey Grove.
